Island Hopping from Cancun:

Flying into Cancun allows you to pick and choose from a large area of where you would like to go. If you are interested in staying out on one of the Islands around Cancun our suggestion is to have us create a customized package for you. Ideally we would have you stay at a resort that will be in the closest proximity of the ferry terminal to the Island that you would like to stay at. Adding a day or two on to your trip so you can make this happen is worth it and it adds an additional experience to your vacation. We get it, it’s tempting to “just get there”, but we encourage you to slow down and soak it all in. If you don’t mind taking an evening flight, this can often be the most economical way to travel. Typically on these flights you will arrive in Cancun around 7am and over to your resort by around 9am. Check in won’t happen at any resort until 3pm but if you are prepared for that it’s not too bad at all. Pack your swimsuit in your carry on, a travel size sunscreen, shorts, t-shirt, sandals and you are set for the day. The staff at the resorts will hold your bags safely in the lobby until it’s time to check into your room and you are free to enjoy the resort. Just keep in mind that you may want to keep your valuables with you such as cash, jewelry and electronics, you never know for sure who might take a peek in your bags. If you were to do a flight like this you could easily check out the following day and take a ferry around lunch time over to the Island or spend an extra night because now you are on Island time! If you are not into the evening flights, take a morning flight so you arrive at your resort mid afternoon. Spend one or two nights at one of the stunning resorts surrounding Cancun before heading to the Island. Alternatively, many of our clients will choose a vacation package with a resort & transfers included and simply take a day trip to these Islands. In this case we would select a resort that has you close a ferry terminal which would be in Playa Del Carmen or Playa Mujeres.

Here are a few ideas of the Islands that we suggest staying at:

  1. Cozumel: This beautiful Island is famous for its world-class diving and snorkeling opportunities along with swimming, the beautiful beaches, shopping, outdoor adventures and of course relaxation. The ferry to Cozumel is located in Playa Del Carmen and known as the “Ferry Terminal Ultramar.” The prices of the tickets and all information can be found on this link. https://www.ultramarferry.com/es
  2. Holbox Island (Isla Holbox): If you are in search of something a little different this stunning Island is located just off the northeastern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. Holbox is best known for its serene and laid-back island vibes, gorgeous soft white sandy beaches and pretty turquoise ocean water. This unique island is home to diverse bird species such as flamingos and pelicans making it a huge attraction to nature lovers.
  3. Isla Mujeres: One of our favorite Islands would be this one! If you are in search of being in close proximity to popular attractions such as Playa Norte, the southern tip of Punta Sur and Hacienda Mundaca, this is the place to stay. You can also find many daily activities to do from renting a golf cart to drive around on, swimming with the dolphins, boat tours, shopping, suntanning, eating and relaxing.

If you are a little more interested in staying off the shores of the Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Cancun or Playa Mujeres areas we highly recommend taking a day trip to any of these islands. You will not be disappointed and you can either choose to do a guided tour or head out on your own. The resorts are always helpful with assisting our clients with excursions or calling a taxi.

As you can see, there is always a reason to visit Cancun. It is an area that you will never run out of things to do and enjoy!
