Smooth Sailing: Navigating your flight to Mexico with Kids – A Parent’s Guide to Stress-Free Travel”
Hello parents and mini adventurers! It’s been a while since we have traveled with little ones but a Mom & Dad never forget what it was like. We also have some great clients who remind us of their experiences, along with their tips and cutest pictures of their littles. Grab a cup of coffee, take a seat and allow us to help you with making your family travel experience a little easier.
What to Pack! Here are some essential items to consider packing for your adventure to Mexico:
- Passports: Make sure they all have a minimum of 6 months before they expire from the date of your return. If you need new passports just make sure the names are exactly the same as the way they are on your tickets.
- Clothing: Purchase travel cubes for the entire family, have each family member carry their own cube in their backpack with a change of clothing, swimsuit and a toothbrush. Ok, maybe the kids need two sets of clothing. Just be prepared for the chance of your checked bags getting lost. It doesn’t happen often but it can happen! The kids also love to carry their own things so this will make them feel pretty important to have in their very own carry on.
- Medications: If you use it at home, bring it with you! Be prepared for anything from bug bites, rashes, upset tummies to fevers. Don’t forget to bring bandages too, the kind that make them feel better and not those boring ones.
- Entertainment: When you arrive at the airport nice and early you will have lots of time to burn off some energy. Keep the kids off of their electronics before you are on that long plane ride. Go for walks, colour and play games. Once you get on the plane they should be ready to relax and watch a movie or some shows that you have downloaded for them. Don’t be shocked if they get a little bored though, they are little. Take them for a walk to the bathrooms to get some movement, ideally before the flight attendant gets to you and you have a tray full of drinks. Yes, we have been there!
- Snacks and Water: Bring all the fun snacks that they don’t get at home. They can still be healthy, just try some different things that they have been begging you to get. Maybe they can help you shop for them before you leave. Once you are through security have them take their empty water bottle out of their carry on and go on an adventure to find the filtered water tap. Hint…it’s usually by the bathrooms but make it a game for them to find it.
- Comfort Items: Let the kids pack one item that they love. Our kids always liked to bring their blankets!
Once you have arrived at the airport you will head to the baggage claim area to pick up your luggage and the you will want to head directly outside. Look for your tour company or private transfer in this area that will take you to your resort.
In my next blog I will share our top tips of what to do with your little ones at the resort, what to pack from home to use at the resort and why we have our favourites resorts to send you to at Sierra Travel Sylvan Lake.
