Cancun for adults

Traveling to Cancun is an exciting experience, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy. It’s convenient to get to from all of our main airports throughout Canada and a fairly short and direct flight. It’s truly an escape to paradise without having to travel too far to get there. Cancun is located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, it’s known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural attractions. Many of our clients enjoy traveling to Cancun solo, as a couple or with a group of friends or family.

Cancun offers a wide range of accommodations, from luxury resorts to budget-friendly hotels. The hotel zone is a popular area for tourists, with many beachfront properties and entertainment options. Some popular resorts for adult travellers that you can find right in the hotel zone are the Riu Palace Las Americas, Riu Cancun, Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Dreams Sands Cancun Resort and Spa. There are several options that are great along the coastline that are not too far away. The options are endless!

The primary beach areas in the Cancun Hotel Zone include:

Playa Delfines (referred to as Dolphin Beachwhere pods of dolphins were once seen on a regular basis). This stunning beach is located at the southern end of the Hotel Zone and is known as the locals favorite. In Playa Delfines you will spot its large, iconic “Cancun” sign along with many traditional Mexican eats, stunning views and beautiful water. This public beach offers a more natural and less crowded atmosphere and is one of the easiest beaches to get to with a bus stop and parking lot on the main avenue. Many reviews point out that it is beautiful to swim there and lifeguards are on duty, however the water can become quite rough so it’s not ideal at all times.

Playa Forum (Forum Beach): This popular beach is situated in the Hotel Zone close to the Forum Shopping Centre. It is a lively area where you will find several restaurants, shopping, music and entertainment. It is known for its vibrant atmosphere both during the day and into the evening. It’s easy to get to by bus or taxi, the parking does sound like it can be limited depending on the time of day you go. As with most places, the earlier you arrive the better if finding a good parking spot or place to settle in on the beach is important to you.

Playa Chac Mool: This public beach is positioned in the central part of the Hotel Zone in Cancun, just off of Kukulcan Boulavard. Playa Chac Mool offers a mix of relaxation, vibrant blue water, white sands, water activities and beautiful sunsets . It is best to access this beach via bus or taxi as the parking lot is quite small.

Playa Tortugas (Tortugas Beach): Located near the ferry terminal to Isla Mujeres, approximately 8km from downtown Cancun. Playa Tortugas is a popular beach with calm waters, making it an ideal place to swim. You will find several water sports rentals and open air beachside restaurants in this area. Many report that it can be a little busy with tourists so you might want to avoid it during peak hours of the day if you are looking for something on the quiet side. It is best to reach this beach by bus or taxi unless you don’t mind paying for parking.

Playa Marlin: Found in the southern part of the Hotel Zone, around a 5 min walk from Kukulcan Plaza Shopping Mall. Playa Marlin is best known for its long stretch of sand, clear waters and quiet atmosphere. When visiting Playa Marlin you will likely not be bothered by vendors and it’s a good idea to bring some food & drinks as there are no restaurants on this beach. It’s a great spot to enjoy some quiet time relaxing and swimming. Some visitors have advised to be careful when swimming, the waves can become quite aggressive without warning and pull you out. Even advanced swimmers have said they will stay where others are swimming on their next visit.

Each beach has its own charm and special reasons for visiting. You can choose to visit one or even a couple of them each day depending on your preferences for that day or particular vacation.

Places to visit: Beyond the wonderful resorts and the beautiful beaches, Cancun has many activities and attractions that are a must see. When planning your time in Cancun be sure to set aside time to explore the Mayan ruins such as Chichen Itza or Tulum, visit the ecological parks like Xcaret or Xel-Ha, or enjoy water sports like snorkeling and scuba diving.

Weather: Cancun is generally warm and humid throughout the year although there are times that you may want to avoid if you don’t do well in extremely warm temperatures. The peak tourist season is from December to April when the weather is sunny, dry and a temperature most can handle. The off-peak season, from May to August is quite hot and will become less crowded with tourists. It can be nice to visit during these months but beware in some resorts that they can have difficulty in the extreme heat with keeping up with the AC which isn’t very pleasant. September- November is the rainy season but it’s also less crowded and you might find better deals on accommodations. Many people really enjoy the weather during this time of the year. Keep in mind that hurricane season is from June to November so if you go during this time expect to see a little rain.

Money: The official currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Most of our clients will get a small amount of pesos at the bank before they go on their vacation along with Canadian dollars which can easily be exchanged at the airport or the hotel. We advise traveling with small bills so you can easily tip where you see fit. Major credit cards are widely accepted in most places so don’t feel like you need to travel with a lot of cash.

Language: Spanish is the official language in Mexico, learning a few basic phrases can be helpful and appreciated by locals. It is always fun to smile at the employees around the resort, restaurants or stores that you visit and say Gracies (Thank you) or Buenos Dias to wish those who you walk past a good morning, Hola for a simple hello and Buenas Noches to say good night or good evening.

Cuisine:If you are a foodie you won’t want to miss the opportunity to enjoy the authentic Mexican cuisine. You will want to try local dishes like tacos, ceviche, Pico de gallo (Salsa) and guacamole and be sure to explore the diverse dining options, from street food to upscale restaurants.

Ultimately, the best time to visit Cancun and where you choose to stay depends on your priorities. Always reach out to a Travel Professional for your services and let them know what you have in mind for your vacation along with your ideal budget. Consider your personal preferences when planning your trip to Cancun and take some time to do your own research and watch videos on YouTube.

The combination of the stunning natural beauty of Cancun, luxurious accommodations, gorgeous beaches, stunning sunrises and sunsets makes Cancun a popular choice for couples looking for a romantic and memorable getaway.
